Here’s the thing, it’s my Netflix account. But since I so rarely find the time to watch TV shows or movies, my son makes much better use of the streaming video service than I do.
He likes gross horror movies, action films, and everything else millennials enjoy. I like West Wing, The Newsroom, old classic movies and comedies. The problem was, all our tastes were mashed up into the personalized recommendations that no longer seemed very personal.
Netflix is rolling out Profiles, which is sure to make my movie selections easier. Each person on the account (up to 5) can create their own individual profile and get suggestions based on what they watch and how they rate them.
It’s really simple to set up; here’s how it works. Once the Profiles feature is enabled for your account, you’ll see a screen that looks like this:
You can add your spouse, your kids, or anyone else who shares your account. Then, when they log in, they’ll see a screen with all the names. Simply clicking their name will give them access to their personalized recommendations as well as Recently Watched and Instant Queue.
Now, all the horror movies will show up under my son’s name, and my shows will stay separate. Even my husband gets to create a profile with a watch list.
Netflix says it will be rolling out the new feature over the next two weeks. It will work on most devices; website, Smart TV’s, PS3, iOS, Xbox 360. They’ll be adding support for Android and Wii soon.
Profiles is included in the $7.99 monthly Netflix subscription.
